Reporting a mistake

Send the page address and, for a calculation, the result's share link, which holds your inputs. If your SSA statement or a benefit letter shows a different figure, tell us which one and the year: the most common gap is an earnings year missing from a rebuilt career. Confirmed errors are fixed and turned into an automated test, as the editorial policy describes.

Never send personal identifiers

Do not send your Social Security number, a copy of your statement or a benefit letter. We do not need them, and we cannot act on your SSA record.

The benefit calculator can be embedded free of charge in an iframe: the code is on the embed page.

What we cannot do

We give no individual financial, legal or tax advice and cannot contact the SSA for you. For your own record, use my Social Security on ssa.gov, call 1-800-772-1213, or visit a local Social Security office.

Response times

A reported calculation error is answered first, generally within a week. Outside of reports, the whole parameter file is re-read each October when the SSA publishes the new COLA, and never less than once every 12 months.
